The Martian: The Complete Review

By: C.Z. Gardner
So, I just finished reading The Martian and finished watching the movie, and I am blown away. When the Ares 3 crew evacuated Mars due to inclement weather conditions, Mark Watney was killed, or at least that is what everybody thought. But by a miracle he is alive, and the whole world is rallying to get him home.
First of all, the book was outstanding and was chock-full of scientific facts and humor. It was very well written, especially considering that this is Andy Weir’s first book, and intricately detailed. It had me on the edge of my seat from the start to the finish and was suspenseful, yet hilarious. The Martian was definitely one of my favorite books that I have read in my short eleven-year lifetime.
The movie also, was amazing. The visuals were outstanding, and although I had read the book there were still plenty of suspenseful and nail-biting moments. During the course of the movie, I felt myself rooting for Mark Watney (Matt Damon) and it got very stressful to watch sometimes.
Both the movie and the book however have very strong language so you should get parental consent before reading or watching. This book definitely gets five stars in my book and I recommend it for kids 13+.

  1. Good review. Next, I'm going to read the book. I like anything about outer space, stars and planets. It was very scientific, I liked it!
